Revolutionizing the Warehouse Floor: Precision at Every Scan

In last month’s newsletter, we introduced the release of HAKO-FLO® EZ-dimensioner, a new solution that enables anyone to capture the true physical profile of cargo—easily, consistently, and without specialized skills.
The core value of EZ-dimensioner is not simply automating dimension measurement. Its real impact lies in enabling accurate, reliable field data to be captured effortlessly—and making that data immediately usable for operational improvements and management decisions.
In this issue, we take a closer look at the specific capabilities of EZ-dimensioner, and how it brings speed, accuracy, and new visibility to daily warehouse operations.

Next Generation Cargo Measurement That Delivers Both Speed and Accuracy

On the warehouse floor, speed is essential—but accuracy is just as critical.
Manual, operator dependent measurement processes and errors in dimensions or weight often lead to re rating freight charges, customer disputes, and inefficient use of storage space—all of which increase daily operational burden.
By introducing EZ-dimensioner, warehouses can expect the following improvements:

  • Stabilized and Standardized Operations
Measurements are captured using the same criteria, regardless of who performs them or when.
This eliminates operator dependency and ensures consistent operational quality.
  • Fewer Disputes and Stronger Audit Trails
Measurement images, dimensions, weights, and timestamps are automatically saved for each cargo item.
When post shipment reviews or inquiries arise, objective evidence can be presented immediately.
  • Optimized Storage Space and Loading Operations
Using actual measured maximum volume data enables rational layout design and load planning—not reliance on experience or assumptions.
  • A Practical Path to Implementing DX
EZ-dimensioner can be introduced without large system replacements or major layout changes, fitting naturally into existing workflows.
Its subscription based model allows for a small initial rollout, minimizing upfront investment while enabling phased expansion as results are confirmed.

What Is
HAKO FLO EZ-dimensioner?

HAKO-FLO® EZ-dimensioner is an automated dimensioning system that uses advanced 3D scanning technology to capture cargo length, width, height, weight, and images automatically.
In addition to standard pallets, it supports drums, long items, oversized cargo, and irregularly shaped freight—items that were traditionally difficult to measure accurately.
EZ-dimensioner can be deployed without significant changes to existing warehouse layouts, delivering both real world practicality and cost efficiency as an automated measurement solution.

How It Works: Core Technologies Behind High Accuracy and Real Time Performance

HAKO-FLO® EZ-dimensioner minimizes operational burden by combining optimized hardware and software design.

  1. 3D Point Cloud Measurement
Multiple sensors scan cargo from all directions.
The resulting 3D point cloud is analyzed to automatically calculate dimensions with accuracy of ±0.5 inches (approx. ±1.5 cm).
Even complex shapes or slight tilts require no manual correction.
  1. Real Time Data Processing
All operations are performed via smartphone.
After scanning, results are processed instantly at the device, allowing immediate confirmation of dimensions, weight, and cargo appearance—without interrupting work or requiring post processing.
  1. Cloud Connectivity
Dimension (L × W × H), weight, and image data are automatically saved to HAKO-FLO® CLOUD as soon as measurement is completed.
Data can be shared and managed in real time across offices and locations, eliminating transcription and input errors.

  1. Operational Use Through Data Integration
Measurement data is combined with RFID tag information, images, and inspection data to create a cargo level digital twin, enabling downstream processes such as tracking, load optimization, and audit management.

Expanded Value Through Integration with HAKO FLO CLOUD

HAKO-FLO® acts as the “brain” connecting warehouse floor operations with cloud based management systems.
When integrated with HAKO-FLO® CLOUD, EZ-dimensioner delivers the following benefits:

  • Centralized Cloud Based Management
All dimensions, weights, and images captured by EZ-dimensioner are automatically aggregated in the cloud.
Cargo data across multiple locations can be viewed centrally via a web browser.
  • Enhanced Proof of Condition
Combined with HAKO-FLO® EZ-report and EZ-SnapAir, warehouse staff can immediately add photos and comments for damaged cargo using their smartphones.
Inspection reports suitable for sharing with customers and carriers can be generated quickly.
  • Advanced Inventory and Cargo Tracking
By integrating with RFID Query, warehouses can manage not only size and weight, but also storage locations and shipment status, creating a comprehensive cargo overview.
  • DX That Can Start Small
HAKO-FLO® is offered as a subscription based service, enabling automation and digitalization without large upfront investment—making DX achievable in realistic stages.

How EZ-dimensioner Transforms the Warehouse Floor: Case Studies

EZ-dimensioner is not just a measurement device—it is a mechanism for embedding accuracy into everyday operations.

Case Study 1: Standardizing Measurement for Irregular and Oversized Cargo
— Operational consistency and fewer disputes —

Air cargo operations routinely handle drums, long items, and large equipment with inconsistent shapes.
Previously, manual tape measurements led to operator dependent variation and frequent post shipment discrepancies.
With EZ-dimensioner, such cargo is measured automatically with a single scan.
Maximum outer dimensions are calculated consistently regardless of shape, with images and timestamps saved automatically.
As a result, measurement time is significantly reduced, re rating and follow up inquiries decline, and operators can proceed with confidence knowing the results are consistent every time.

Case Study 2: From Intuition to Data in Storage and Loading
— Improved layout and load efficiency —
Storage layouts and load planning have traditionally relied heavily on experience and intuition.
To avoid risk, extra buffer space is often included—leading to inefficiencies.
By integrating EZ-dimensioner into inbound workflows and consolidating data in HAKO-FLO® CLOUD, accurate, measured cargo dimensions become visible and actionable.
These data provide a factual basis for revising storage layouts and load plans.
Experience remains valuable—but now it is reinforced with data, reducing perception gaps between operations and planning teams and improving both space utilization and load efficiency.

Case Study 3: Faster, More Reliable Proof of Condition
— Improved damage handling and customer communication —

In international logistics, photos and reports for damaged cargo are often managed separately, making explanation and documentation time consuming.
By combining EZ-dimensioner with EZ-report and EZ-SnapAir, staff can capture additional damage photos and comments immediately at the time of discovery—directly from a smartphone.
Dimensions, weight, images, and inspection data are all linked at the cargo level.
Inspection reports are created faster, explanations to customers and carriers become smoother, and reliable Proof of Condition is accumulated naturally as part of daily operations.

Moving Warehouse DX to the Next Phase

Logistics DX has entered a new phase—one that assumes automation as a foundation.
HAKO-FLO® goes beyond tool delivery, offering end to end support including deployment design, workflow aligned customization, and operational adoption.
Simplify and standardize damage reporting and dimension measurement with a more reliable system.
